Assignment 5-1

Television isn't what it used to be. When I was younger there was alot of good shows to watch. The televison of today shows nudity, the language they use is terrible, and too much violence. They used to show disney movies on Sunday nights and all the family could sit down and watch a good show together. That would be hard to do in today world. Even the cartoons aren't what they used to be which is crazy since there are little ones watching. The music of today has also changed with all the bad things the rappers sing about and their language they use. Hopefully these kinds of things will change to the good.

Assignment 4-1

My favorite movie is Hope Floats. It is about a woman that is married and her husband has an affair and the effects it has on her and her daughter. Her best friend takes her on a talk show and tells her that she is having an affair with her husband. The look on her face of shock said it all. It shows all the different emotions that she and her daughter went through. The anger, depressions, and emotional states are things that happen when this is done. I went through this so I can relate to the movie. Thank goodness it wasn't with one of my friends and I wasn't on national TV when I found out with my child sitting there in the audience. It is hard enough finding out but being on national TV would make it even harder. She eventually meets a very nice man and her daughter finally excepts him and they have a much happier life. This happens alot in this crazy world and if the cheater would only think how they would feel if it was done to them.

Assignment 3-1

I have chosen to write about JoDee Messina. I like this country singer. Her songs hit home with me quite a bit. Songs such as lesson in leavin and bring on the rain are two of my favorite songs. In lesson in leavin she sings about being cheated on and the gentleman will get paid back some day. I have had this happen to me and you always hope that someday they will get whats coming to them. In the song bring on the rain she sings about the battle lost but not the war so bring on the rain. I have said that when things are tough in my life it is like being in a storm and it would be nice to have sprinkles of rain instead of a storm all the time.

Assignment 2-1

I have chosen AC/DC for my weekly assignment. AC/DC was created in 1973 by Malcolm and Angus Young. Their first album was released in 1975 High Voltage. This album sol more than 200 million albums worldwide. In 1981 they released For Those About to Rock You and this was their first album to reach number one in the United States. Their album Back in Black has sold 42 million units worldwide and 22 million in the US alone. It is the fifth highest selling album. Bon Scott was the lead singer from 1974 to 1980. Brian Johnson took over the lead singer spot after the death of Bon Scott and he is still their lead singer. In 2008 they are still making albums and still touring. I think it is great that they are still popular since they started in 1973.

The three I have chosen are dc. Happy Days, Star Wars, and AC/DC. The reason I have chosen these are they are from my past. When Star Wars came out in 1977 I took my youngest brother to see the movie at the drive-in. Happy days was a good show to watch when it started in 1974. AC/DC started in 1973 and their first album was 1975. My brother sings these songs and sounds alot like Bon Scott. I find it interesting that my 22 year old son also likes this band.

This is a known fact that innovative technology have made life's in the modern day world easier and productive and this should not raise any doubts in cynical minds. The blackberry phone has made people take notice in the high technology of cell phones. It is a smart phone that has great looks as well as wonderful features that make a cell phone enjoyable. The display on the blackberry smart phone is large, colored, and bright and makes using the handset alot easier to operate. It has a keyboard which makes it more sophisticated and a navigation system which is user friendly. Some of the features on the blackberry are media player, built in GPS, camera, and an expandable memory slot to ensure enough memory for pictures and music files. My daughter has this phone and really enjoys the features. She text messages alot and the keyboard makes it easier to text. If searching the market for an innovated phone the blackberry is the one to choose.

Popular culture has an influence on how society preceives itself. Popular culture is music, dance, theatre, TV, poetry, and art which is enjoyed by a wide group of people. Some people would argue that popular culture in the 60's caused harm. However, other people argue that there were other factors that brought harm and change in society. There are many different things that people perceive culture as. It is just a matter of taste and judgement.

Popular culture is a relatively a broad term but it usually meant changes from the 60's. This era was famously known as "sex, drugs, & rock and roll". Society was starting to get better off as a result of full employment. In 1959 Harold Macmillan quoted "you've never had it so good". This was triggered by the country gradually getting wealthier. Technology was getting more advanced and entertainment was also stepping forward. With technology advancing this has helped with cell phones and computers in the marketing world.

I choose for my pop culture artifact a cell phone because of the advancing technology of the phones. Years ago they were much larger and did not have many features. These days there are many different to pick from. They take pictures, you can get on the internet, they have GPS capabilites and many other options.
